The fashion industry is one of the most dynamic and influential global industries today, with fashion trends changing faster than ever before, and thanks to social media and digital platforms, exclusive fashion events are accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, due to this speed, the fashion industry today generates a significant ecological and social cost, from environmental pollution to unethical working conditions, making sustainability a crucial issue. We are also responsible for choosing whom we will support: mass production or local designers, consumption or art. Fortunately, more and more brands and designers are turning to sustainable fashion, using recycled materials, eco-friendly fabrics, and ethical production processes. Among the artists who do not follow the beaten path but create their own, stands out Chris Mršić, a talented designer who thoughtfully combines aesthetics, ethics, and contemporary life.
The multimedia exhibition, mysteriously titled HITOMO 42, encompasses various creations from the field of fashion design: garments, drawings, sketches, photographs, and video work. The author enriches the space audibly, offering us yet another dimension of the experience through ambient music. The mannequin models wearing the creations are the main protagonists of the event. Positioned in the space as if communicating with each other, they lose their usual demonstrative function and become active participants in the exhibition. The drawings capture his evolving creative process, while the photographs transform his collection into art, highlighting composition and emotion. The video, shot on the shores of Krk, transforms his fashion collection into a dynamic artwork, blending the natural beauty of the Mediterranean with the flow of his designs. The movement of the models and interplay of light create a harmonious fusion of fashion and nature, embodying femininity and elegance.
The materials he uses range from flowing silk, linen, and viscose to rich, structured fabrics like velvet and brocade. In this sense, he is like a sculptor who extracts form from the given material, with the material itself guiding him to the final result. He most often designs for women, creating dresses: evening, cocktail, ball, casual, modern, and in addition to dresses, one can find stylish two-piece sets, jumpsuits, blouses, or shirts. Occasionally, his inspiration comes from oriental cultures, in which he explores their traditional methods of sewing, tailoring, and wearing garments. While exploring various styles, he always retains his signature: sophistication and sensuality.
Mršić’s style is distinctly recognizable and authentic, successfully blending classic elements with modern, urban, and innovative details. His collections exude an artistic spirit; they are a fusion of creativity and technical skill in design, tailoring, and sewing. He is not limited by passing trends but transcends seasonal boundaries, creating timeless pieces that possess personality and character. (Luisa Ritoša)
