The first Comedy Film Fest “Laughter Island” is coming to Šilo on the island of Krk
Šilo, island of Krk, June 25 and 26, 2026 – short films, comedy, special guests and free admission
Šilo on the island of Krk is becoming a film island of laughter this June. On Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, 2026, the first edition of the Comedy Film Fest “Laughter Island”, a new international short comedy film festival organized by the Spirit Association from Rijeka, will take place.
The festival brings short films that not only seek out loud laughter, but also smiles, amazement, satire, absurdity, parody and that subtle discomfort when we realize that we may be laughing at ourselves. The program starts at 9:15 PM, and admission for the audience is free.
The first festival program will screen 24 short films from 13 countries. The most represented authors are from the United States with 7 films, followed by the United Kingdom and France with 3 films each, and Germany with 2 films. One film each comes from Austria, Canada, Croatia, India, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Russia and Spain. The 24 selected are a selection from more than 150 submitted works from all over the world.
Thus, in its first edition, the program combines different humors, languages ​​and rhythms – from animation, absurdity and black comedy to warmer, quieter and completely wacky short forms. Croatia is represented in the program by the film How to Grow a Human directed by Luna J. Stamenković.
In addition to the competition program, the festival also brings special guest content. Permissions have been obtained from authors and rights holders for their screening, including the Hungarian National Film Institute Nonprofit Private Share Company for an episode of the 1964 animated classic Gustav / Gusztáv, the Danish Tiny Film ApS for the animated series Originalos, and author Geefwee Boedoe for the American animated satire Let’s Pollute. Secret Agent 010, a short episode of a humorous Rijeka film series starring young people with disabilities, will also be screened in a special program.
Comedy Film Fest “Laughter Island” is launched by the Croatian part of the creative team behind the long-standing Uhvati Film festival, a regional festival that has been connecting film, inclusion, and socially important topics for more than two decades. The new festival in the Karst is not being created as a continuation of that program, but as its mischievous distant relative: less solemn, more Mediterranean, with lots of laughter, but with the idea that humor does not have to be shallow, crude, or exclusive.
The festival is non-profit, and the program is supported by the Dobrinj Municipality Tourist Board. The audience can expect evening screenings under the open sky, an island atmosphere and a film program that shows that comedy can be local, international, smart, silly and completely unpredictable.
Comedy Film Fest “Island of Laughter” will be held on June 25 and 26, 2026 in Šilo on the island of Krk.
Films will be subtitled in Croatian and English.
