SUMMARY:Black Sheep
DESCRIPTION:Crna Ovca is a unique festival of lamb\, individualism\, island heritage\, culture\, and sports that has been held in Baška on the island of Krk since 2006. Every year\, on the third weekend of May\, the streets of Baška fill with the aromas of lamb dishes\, music\, sports competitions\, and numerous cultural programs celebrating the island way of life. \nAt the heart of the festival is Baška lamb\, a recognizable local product that can be tasted everywhere during the festival—from classic lamb roasted on a spit to traditional dishes such as žgvacet with šurlice\, as well as modern interpretations prepared by Baška’s restaurants and taverns. Through this gastronomic story\, Crna Ovca celebrates local flavors and the people who create them. \nThe festival program features concerts\, exhibitions\, lectures\, creative workshops\, sports and outdoor events\, and a variety of cultural activities\, turning Baška into a vibrant meeting place for visitors from Croatia and abroad for one weekend. A relaxed atmosphere\, excellent food\, and diverse events have made Crna Ovca the most recognizable spring event on the island of Krk for nearly two decades. \nCrna Ovca is the holder of the “Croatian Island Product” label\, an award granted by the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds to island products\, events\, and initiatives that contribute to preserving tradition\, promoting island identity\, and supporting sustainable development. The festival also naturally aligns with the values of the Kvarner – European Region of Gastronomy 2026 project\, which highlights the authenticity of local gastronomy and the sustainable development of the destination.
